"En me reversant, vous n'avez seulement coupe que le tronc de l'arbre de la liberte des noirs. Il repoussera par les racines, car elles sont profondes et
nombreuses."
("In overthrowing me, you have only cut down the trunk of the tree of black's liberty. It will spring up at the roots, for they are numerous and deep.")
This poster celebrates a great hero of the 18th century, Toussaint L'Overture, "leader of Haiti's revolution. He led the world's greatest uprising against the European slave system. His forces defeated armies from France, Spain, and
England and opened the road to independence and emancipation. He was later kidnapped by the French and removed from his homeland much as the United States would do two hundred years later to Haiti's first democratically elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide."
